Teaching & learning

Teaching

Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research-led project supervision, and the design of training that puts real research data into students' hands.

Courses & curriculum

I have lectured particle-physics and new-physics courses at Manchester (“Frontiers of Particle Physics: Searches for New Physics”; “Special Topics: Particle Physics”) and contributed to syllabus development for introductory data science. I am an undergraduate tutor and a third-year laboratory demonstrator.

Real data in the lab

I have built undergraduate laboratory and project work around open research data released by the ATLAS Collaboration, so students analyse genuine data from a running experiment. This grew from a final-year project into lab courses, and into a fully remote-capable model using Jupyter notebook servers.

Doctoral training

As Director of the 4IR Centre for Doctoral Training in Data Intensive Science, I designed and deliver a programme of fifteen postgraduate training courses across Manchester, Lancaster and Sheffield — including industry-led training and fully-online provision developed with the HEP Software Foundation and the Software Sustainability Institute.
